Buddha

"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment. An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind. Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned."

Money Never Sleeps

It's Time To Crush It

Just began reading GARY VAYNERCHUK'S recent book called CRUSH IT. This guy has build his personal brand from the ground up using social media and video blogging and provides tools for individuals to do the same. Part motivation and part case study, it does well to chronicle other people's successes. Some parts may come off as pie in the sky but overall I would recommend this book. The chapter on personal branding alone is worth a second and third read.

"Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. Results! Why, man, I have gotten a lot of results. I know several thousand things that won't work. The three great essentials to achieve anything worth while are: Hard work, Stick-to-itiveness, and Common sense. The value of an idea lies in the using of it. "

Flight Number

I still haven't wrapped my mind around the idea that 2009 is over and its a brand new year. Another idea completely lost on me is the fact that this is a beginning of a new decade. It can't believe that ten years is over just like that. While I can't sum up the past ten years I thought I would review this year in terms of travel. I didn't hit up as many cities as last year but I had two great to far out places. One trip to Las Vegas and another to New York. I hope to visit both places soon but I do wish I spent more time relaxing this year than I did working. Anyways, to you and yours I wish you all the best for 2010, hope you have a great year and an even better decade.

"Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it's not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won't. it's whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere."

New York, NY

The city that never sleeps. The Big Apple or even Gotham. New York goes by many names but for nine days this month I called it home. I achieved one of my lifetime dreams to see a sporting event at Madison Square Garden and to watch three major league sports while on vacation. I loved New York, the sights and sounds assault your senses. The city gives you a certain energy level, a feeling of how big the universe really is and just how small we just are. In eight days I saw the Statue of Liberty, Knicks game, Jets game in New Jersey and Ovechkin play the Rangers, Empire State Building, eat dinner in the middle of Times Square, four plays (The Lion King, Chicago, Stomp, Wicked), New Yankee stadium, a comedy show, went to the circus, walked over Brooklyn Bridge and visited famous museums and I still felt that I could have done more. I recommend everyone to visit this great city. I loved it so much that I can't wait to go back.

Waving Flag

For reasons beyond our own understanding, certain sights and sounds just stick with us. They make us feel something, sometimes a feeling we can't interpret or understand a feeling none the less. Big Apple

A dream is just an idea until you do something to make it happen. I've said for years that I want to catch a game at Madison Square Garden in New York and now its finally going to happen. Inspired by JAY-Z'S live performance of Empire State of Mind, James and I have decided to take a trip to New York City. We will be leaving in mid November, I can't wait and am counting down the days. We'll be watching a Rangers, Jets and Knicks game and checking out the city that never sleeps. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Paula Scher

"I’ve been through so many styles and trends that have been like that. That’s your first reaction when you see something new that you aren’t part of. It’s a generational shift. I’m 60, I’ve been through this a lot. You never can do what the kids do. What you do is look at yourself and find your own way to address the fact that the times have changed and that you have to pay attention. You can’t be a designer and say, “Oh, this is timeless.” Nothing is timeless! Times change. The minute you say, “This is some fashion phase, I’m going to ignore this, because my work is timeless,” pay attention—you’re fooling yourself!"

Fire

Watched the MICHEAL JORDAN speech the other day as he was inducted into the HALL OF FAME. The guy sure has put on a few pounds but he was classic MJ. He speech was witty, entertaining and well received. But was struck me was how he continued to speak about his drive and how every time someone criticized him, beat him, or told him he couldn't do something it drove him to work harder so he could prove them wrong. That's an important lesson. Instead of getting down on ourselves we should look for ways to make ourselves better, turn something good into something bad. To watch the video click HERE.

Satisfaction

After being alive for over a quarter of a century I always wonder if its true what people say: happiness is a choice? Having a gratitude attitude makes some positive people and allows them to put out good energy that attracts great experiences into their life. I at times wonder if I do that. Over the past few days I've been reflecting and wondering not if I'm happy but satisfied. Satisfied with what I'm putting out in the universe and the answer is no. I'm happy with what I have but unsatisfied with myself. I guess I'm happy with the universe but just need to work on me.

“I am learning to understand rather than immediately judge or to be judged. I cannot blindly follow the crowd and accept their approach. I will not allow myself to indulge in the usual manipulating game of role creation. Fortunately for me, my self-knowledge has transcended that and I have come to understand that life is best to be lived and not to be conceptualized. I am happy because I am growing daily and I am honestly not knowing where the limit lies. To be certain, every day there can be a revelation or a new discovery. I treasure the memory of the past misfortunes. It has added more to my bank of fortitude.”

One of my favorite authors SETH GODIN spoke at the new 99 PERCENT CONFERENCE a few months ago. It was finally uploaded online and you can watch it HERE. His presentation centers around the concept of shipping and meeting deadlines and budgets. From his point of view the hard part isn't being creative - its actually doing things and getting away from the excuses we tell ourselves or as he calls it the "lizard brain". Personally I loved his idea and it changed my perspective on my work ethic and question if I'm starting and finishing.

Get It Out There

After going almost a month without seeing each other James and I finally hooked up for breakfast at White Spot. Later on I showed him some of the work that I had been producing. I even showed him some of my self-promotional stuff that I created more than a year ago. James responded by saying that I needed to get my work out there and having it sitting on my computer wasn't doing anything. That was just the kick in pants that I needed, since then I've gotten my ass in gear to get my worked printed and out there. Thanks James.

Family Matters

Spent the last weekend at my cousins wedding, despite how tired I - it was really fun. I don't notice how much I enjoy my family until I stop seeing them for so long. Maybe the distance keeps us closer. What always gets me whenever I have one of these family reunions is how fast time is passing. Its hard to see cousins that I use pick up as babies now taller than me. I guess its true what they say, life does not go backwards - only forward.

Fallen Will Rise

Yeah I saw it, and I will look anyone in the eye and tell them that I liked TRANSFORMERS 2: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN. Of course it won't win any Oscars nor is the script very good but if you want an escape from reality then you should watch this movie. Tons of explosions, cool action sequences, amazing special effects and long slow motions scenes of Megan Fox running - how can you go wrong. For good idea spend ten bucks and check out this film, and for the full effect watch it on Imax its even better.

After listening to his latest album, I have to say that I'm not too impressed with it. It has been five years and EMINEM just seems to be banging out the same old stuff. Yoga

When I started doing it I hated it. I couldn't stand bikrams yoga (hot), it smelled, I felt dizzy, the poses were too hard, and despite there being half naked girls I swore to myself that I would never come back. Man am I glad that I defeated that voice in my head that was telling me it's too hard. I've been going for a few months now, about three times a week and I love it. I even find myself encouraging people to go to it. It isn't for everyone but yoga can be a great thing to do for yourself. It's just you vs you for 90 minutes and its mind over matter. Give it a try, don't be afraid to climb out of your comfort zone.

Mike Tyson

"When I come out I have supreme confidence. But I'm scared to death. I'm afraid. I'm afraid of everything. I'm afraid of losing. I'm afraid of being humiliated. But I'm confident. The closer I get to the ring the more confident I get. The closer, the more confident. All during training I've been afraid of this man. I think this man might be capable of beating me. I've dreamed of him beating me. For that I've always stayed afraid of him. The closer I get to the ring the more confident I get. Once I'm in the ring I'm a god. No one could beat me. I walk around the ring but I never take my eyes off my opponent....During the fight I'm supremely confident. I'm making him miss and I'm countering. I'm hitting him to the body; I'm punching him real hard. And I'm punching him, and I'm punching him, and I know he's gonna take my punches. He goes down, he's out. I'm victorious. Mike Tyson, greatest fighter that ever lived."

Benjamin

On of my favorites movies last year and now of all time is THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON. I don't know why, but after watching the movie for the second time this past weekend I was even more touched by it then my first viewing. The film caused me to think of my own mortality and what sort of life I was leading. It is such a simple story but it reinforces my belief that everyone has a unique tale and there is no true path to life, we have to forge our own way. I hope you can spare three hours of your life to enjoy this entertaining story of a man and appreciate the power he and we all have to live a life that were can be proud of.

I highly recommend any person walking on earth to read PSYCHO-CYBERNETICS by MAXWELL MALTZ. Although the book was published in 1960, it is timeless and even more relevant in our current doom and gloom society. MALTZ, a plastic surgeon by trade writes success and happiness being habits and how to develop them. He also writes about the trappings of depression and how to avoid and learn from failure. Buy the book and read it over and over again. My favorite section of the book was the habit of happiness section. He is correct in how take a situation and we confuse opinion and fact as one.

Personal Legend

Currently reading THE ALCHEMIST by PAULO COELHO and have to say that the book is inspiring. The fable tells the tale of a boy that goes into the desert to seek a treasure. Inside the books are nuggets of wisdom about making choices, being clear about what you desire and not fearing failure. One aspect that has touched me the most is the personal legend part. How we have to work towards our destiny and find our calling (our personal legend). I highly recommend you buy the book and read over and over again - it is a classic.
