Weird Al Yankovic

I was watching the comedy network a few days ago and saw WEIRD AL'S live performace of AMISH PARADISE. I laughed all the way to the computer and was able to find his parody of LOSE YOURSELF - COUCH POTATO, which was very impressive. I truly believe this guy is a genius.

This is to have succeeded."

They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

Winner

I hooked up with my buddy JAMES on Saturday evening. We had planned to watch CASINO ROYALE but the movie was sold out so we rented THE BREAK-UP instead. The movie was hilarious and didn’t have a typical Hollywood ending and if you ever get a chance, I recommend checking it out.

After the movie JAMES and I played a game of NHL07. It was another thriller, JAMES took an early 3-0 lead but I came back to win 7-6 in overtime. I’m currently leading the season series 4-2 and for some reason more proud of that than anything else I've accomplished this year.
Heck to be honest that’s the only reason I’m writing about that night - just so I could mention the fact I won!

Names

My sister and I have a hate/hate relationship and she claims it’s because of my huge list of nicknames for her.
For the past twenty plus years she has hated the following names: pudgy, biggs, tubby, chubby checks, TC (triple chin), OW (over weighty). chub chub, big poppa, big fella, big boyy, notorious p.i.g, lil fat and piglet.
Now for some reason she thinks of them as insults while I think of think of them as terms of endearment.

Yesterday afternoon I saw THE DEPARTED with JAMES. Overall I give the movie four stars. It featured all-star performances from LEONARDO DICAPRIO, JACK NICHOLSON and MATT DAMON. Check it out in theatres or when it comes out on DVD.

I signed up for SPORTSNET FANTASY HOCKEY this year and am currently in a slump. I know it’s early but my player picking is really off.
That worries me a bit, but another thing that really concerned me was my lame betting ability. About a year ago I bet on Sportsaction and won, a few days ago I bet and I lost all three games - pathetic I agree.

Road Trip

For the first time in over a year I left the city of VANCOUVER. On October 4th at 7:00 am JAMES and I headed out for a road trip to KELOWNA.

We were both told that it would take five hours to get to there but with JAMES’S driving it only took four hours, and that doesn’t include us getting lost in HOPE and a thirty minute pit stop.

Once we arrived in KELOWNA we went Go-Karting, which we could do in VANCOUVER but because there are so many other things to do we don’t. The karting was fun, despite the both of us crashing, it was quite an adrenaline rush.

Across the street from the karting was a miniature golf course. Since neither of us had done it in a while, we thought it would be fun. JAMES played a solid game while my performance was disgusting. It took me four swings to get the windmill shot and JAMES, the show off that he is, hit a hole in one with his left hand.

The rest of the day was mediocre, besides a really hot “I’m sure those are fake” waitress at EARLS there wasn’t much to get excited about.

But overall I enjoyed the trip, just for the sack of leaving and being away for Vancouver it was worth it. Plus, going on a road trip is something JAMES and I have talked about forever and it was nice to finally do it.

Also, the trip did end on an even better good note for me. When we got back we headed to JAMES’S house and played a few games of NHL ’07. I beat him both times and I have to admit I wasn’t too impressed with his sore loser attitude, but regardless I’m up on my season series 3-2!

My personal favorite is this JORDAN AD that aired many years ago and I still remember it. It truly captures the essence of the brand and the man and I personally found it very motivating.

Love At First Sight

While walking home from work the other day I was stop by a beautiful blonde female. I noticed she made eye contact with me when I was waiting across the street for the light signal to flash walk and I credited my good looks for her interest in me. As I began to walk towards her I noticed her extending her hand, my heart began to pound in anticipation for "hey handsome here’s my phone number" but instead she handed me a hockey puck with a neat logo and PICKUPHOCKEY.COM printed on it. I can't tell you how disappointed I was, but as a marketer I admire the intelligent branding strategy.

06/07

While the NHL 06/07 season officially begins in a few weeks, James and I decided to begin our video game season early. Since the game wasn't broadcast on television nor heard on the radio I'll have to give you the exclusive here.

Despite this being the new NHL our first game was scoreless until the third period. I think this had to do with us both not knowing the new commands because there was a lot of awkwardness on that ice.
But by some fluke I was able to score the lone goal of the game and won 1-0. It was a proud moment and seeing the look of shock and disappointment on JAMES face made my afternoon.

Unfortunately I should have called it a day but we decided to play two more games. Both games he won, the second was close at 6-4 but the third game he creamed me 4-0. My biggest concern was when I picked VANCOUVER for our second game and LOUNGO let in six goals on seventeen shoots - I hope this isn't an indication of things to come this season.

I do have to give credit to JAMES for playing with an injured finger. He played through the pain and won the last two games. Kudos to you my big white friend, kudos to you.

Farewell

While walking to work today with umbrella in hand it finally dawned on me that summer is over. No more sun, no more long days, no more wearing shorts that show off my fine legs, and worst of all no more girls in shorts and tank tops.
So as I say farewell to the warm weather and begin to prepare for the next few months of Vancouver wetness I say thank you to LULULEMON for creating butt hugging pants that females can wear all year round.

Training Camp

Ever since JAMES called to tell me he bought the new NHL '07 video game I have been undergoing a vigorous training regime for our opening game, date to be announced.

The training has been purely physical as I begin the day with finger stretches, knuckle cracking and squats (got to keep my ass lean for all that sitting).

I had a rough season last year, began with a lot of promise and close games but not a lot of W's. I hope this season will be different because I have a victory dance I've been dieing to perform.

Reunion

On Wednesday night I got together with my long time friends from high school. It was the first time in about three years that MIKE, JAMES and I hooked up and hung out.

I really enjoyed the evening. It started off well with me beating JAMES in a game of NHL ’06. We played a few more games but the outcome isn’t important. I won the first game and that’s all I remember.

After MIKE arrived we headed out to SHARKS CLUB for dinner. The food was okay (I’ve had better chicken wings), the waitress was horrible and the bill almost gave me a heart attack - $63.00 for nachos, chicken wings and chicken strips with fries! It was highway robbery tell you.

The best part of the evening was when we headed to the local high school to shoot some hoops. We talked about old times - the good old days, back when we were teenagers and not tax paying citizens.

It was nice to reminisce, to poke fun at each other (me being on the receiving end most of the time) and just hanging out.

My mom asked me the next day what we did and I told her nothing. Which is true to an extent, but I’m sure when I’m an old man who can’t remember where he left his teeth I think back to that night, as the night I was in good company.

Old School Dialogue

I was watching a re-run of MARRIED WITH CHILDREN and a line really made me laugh. The setting is a high school reunion and Peggy Bundy, whose maiden name is Wanker, is approached by an old buddy who greets her with "Peggy, is that you Peggy, Peggy Wanker don't bother to thank her. "

This got me thinking about a nickname for myself. I wish a girl would come up to me at my high school reunion and say "Herman, Herman is that you, Herman Mahal who goes all night long." Oh that would be so cool - I would be a living legend.

THANKS AGIAN TO JAMES FOR THE HEADS UP. I LOVE THE COVER.

Any Given Sunday

On Wednesday I decided to visit my local BLOCKBUSTER and rent a few movies. I don't know why but I picked two football films, ANY GIVEN SUNDAY and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. Both were pretty good, not excellent but they held my attention and the football scenes were very authentic. But if I were to recommend one film it would have to be ANY GIVEN SUNDAY. I watched the movie with my buddy MIKE and both agreed it was really slick, the performances of AL PACINO and JAIME FOXX, and it had some of the most comical touchdown celebrations I've ever seen.
